Re-union Photo's 2010

Sep 29, 2009

All the way from Australia.

Here are some more photos from Tony in Australia who's family were regular visitors in the late 50s - early 60s. I'm sure we all recognise the location of the 2nd and 3rd photos. The 2nd one looks to me like the bar/restaurant seats running along the promenade in front of the town hall and then the promenade with the town hall in the background.
As for the 1st one which I should think will be Tony's family sat at the table, I just cant place where abouts it could be....any ideas ?

  19. Don't know why I think this- just a hunch, but I think the last pic is maybe what was the Hotel Miramar by the town hall? Not sure what it is called now, it is just at the bottom of the street where Ome Toom was?

  20. Oops sorry, meant the first pic.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yes Debbie, I thought it looked as though it is on that same street between the swing seats and the hotels, the Miramar is still there. If it is there's no chance of sitting there now!

  24. Thanks Jackie for posting the pix - hope they're of interest to others. Digging through all the general chat, I get the feeling one or two of you might be interested in the actual contents of the photos. Jackie has quite a few more of my old shots, and I'll send still more if there's any interest. The 'wee lads with the cowboy hats' are myself (I'm the wee-est) and my brother, with our mother. When you consider I'm now nearly 60, my brother is 63, and Mum died earlier this year aged 83, you get some idea of how long ago it was. I'd say c. 1957-58. Yes, Jackie, you'd be right about the location of the bar near the beach-front. No idea re the rest, but the group shots (apart from my brother and mother) are not family, but a mix of locals and fellow tourists. Your crack about the bloke isn't so far from the truth - I was told he was a bit of a gold-digger who was engaged to the girl he's holding in this shot, but was interested only in her family's money. Some things never change. As Jackie knows, I'm trying to find old photos of the original Costa Encantada, which was on the same site as the present hotel, but in the 50s that was way out in the middle of nowhere. I've sent Jackie one very grainy old shot of the main building, and a few of my parents with the hotel's open-air dining hall in the background. A far cry from today's air conditioned multi-service hotels, but we thought it was brilliant.

  26. Hi John We'll be down there from 4th Jan till 22nd of March, and looking forward to now. Although we love it here, we do need a change of scenery, so we'll be coming to Fuengirola to see you.

  27. There is a shop just of Paris Square, that for as long as I have been here was a shop selling shampoo and stuff, however a few weeks ago it seems to have changed hands, and the window is full of old Lloret Pics from around the turn of the last century onwards.

Whether the new owner is selling such photos, or just using them to decorate his windows until he opens is unclear, but next time I pass I will ask him if he has any old pics of the Costa Encantada.

  28. Thanks Debbie, that would be great if you would. I just dont believe how totally useless this town is for info. I've got nowhere so far, but I've told Tony I wont give up trying for him.
