Photos from Kevin

Thanks to Kevin Speak for sending a fantastic selection of photos from the 70s, if anyone out there remembers Kevin I'm sure he'd love to hear from you! here is a note from Kevin -
"I worked at both Moby Dicks and The Pink Panther during different seasons from 1974 to 76, it’s been a really nice trip for me down memory lane to see so many of the old workers I once called my friends some of which as the season came to an end we would then travel down to Grand Canaria and hang out at the Guantanamo campground at a beach called La Playa de Touro"

Just look at the the price of the meal in the above photo 95pts!!
After all the bars and cafes in Lloret that used to do Sunday lunch or a typical cooked breakfast, just now its very hard to find a place where you can get such a meal.... In fact just now you cant, everywhere is shut.
The White Horse and Bravehearts have sadly closed down and even El Torito which hasn't closed for years are having a long winter break. There wont be many bars left soon!

Oh I see I remember the 70s and early 80s when every single pub and club was packed every night all with big spenders Great Days but sadly gone never to return mind you Benidorm Fuengirola and the Canaries are all the same

In fact everywhere is the same -Desperate times !!!

you all make lloret sound like its completly deserted, well at this time of the year maybe but during the summer months its still packed and really busy, just that there are very few english pubs left as there were in the 70's, time has moved on, seems some of you havent !! its still a really young scene with endless bars and discos that are all really busy during the summer months with lots of different nationalities not just english !

Your talking rubbish, youve got a 6 week season and thats about it.

Yes plenty of young people in the pubs an clubs but just like the uk they drink at home and only go out when they are drunk and do
nt spend any money in the pubs all the bar owner is left with is controlling them and cleaning up the mess definitely not counting the takings lol

Thought comments were supposed to be about the photos, not slagging off lloret bar owners. I see Andy Anderson has struck his usual pose in second pic, great to see old pics of the Moby.

I remember Kevin but not sure he will remember me. In fact I think one of the photos I put on in the early days of the site had him on it. Nice to see Ian colligan, big henry, george on the photo as well as jeannie. Is it conrad in the black and yellow t shirt. I wonder why everyone is putting anonymous, I thought we had all agreed to put our names on comments or am I wrong?

Many workers including myself owe a gratitude of thanks because without the likes of them how many British people would have had the chance to get out to lloret .Most were paid a low wage but how many got drunk whilst working .. For many it was one big long p..s up .. For every bar owner who employed me including Ted Law and Jimmy Simpson and Hammy I would shake there hand and say '' Thanks for putting up with me '' I wouldnt change them days for anything ... So stop bloody moaning about the owners and give them the Gratitude they deserve .. Cheers to all you owners ... Max

Joe I know you put up with me and at times I know a was a bugger .. And words cant even be put on here explaining my gratitude ..
But for the miserable person who thinks that owners were rip off merchants I dont think that .. They if anything were employing cheap labour and if yu didnt agree why didnt you get out .. So stop the bloody moaning and look at the good times u had .. Max

well said Max, if it wasnt for the above mentioned none of us would have had jobs and the opportunity to have met so many great people and had such a great time-loads of great memories to look back on and Im sure most of us wouldnt have had it any other way !!

angie..just seen what your talking about.jackie has stuck porn on my computer lol..ps max if they moan and don't put they're name to the comment ignore them.

You know none of us should rise to the bait when anon doesn't put his/her name to the comments. I made some fantastic life long friends while I was in lloret and I have many things to thank Ted Law, Jimmy Rockerfella, Steve Watson and Jimmy Simpson for. We all have our own memories and at least I can put my name to mine.

Jackie, just occurred to me, is the person placing the negative comments and not putting his/her name on, the same person as was commenting about a year or so ago?

Jackie said...

Yes, could be Jill, I've just removed a couple of the comments, its obviously someone who gets easily wound up...and all because I mentioned the menu on the wall in the background!

If I could do it all again ..I'd be there like a shot...blessed with the good times we had and blessed with the friends it left me with, 'anon's ' a pratt xx

We have been here before??,can all ANONYMOUS posts be deleted at source,? This would stop the cowards useing the site as as platform to highlight their otherwise boring existence, then and now.

Jackie said...

I've changed the settings Andy so that I have to 'ok' all comments before they're published - which is a bit of a pain for me, so as soon as things have calmed down I'll change it back.
Also the times when the comments are placed are still way out, I just cant see where the problem is.

Hi Jill, think you've got the names right and Conrad sounds right too not bad after 30 odd years, they were good times eh!

I decided to re move a few more of the comments from last night, not nice when people are getting slagged off!

Anonymous said...

Jackie, you look @ everything through rose tinted glasses, Some of the posts were very true.
and you must admit LLoret is in serious decline. xx

Jackie said...

Thank you ANONYMOUS!
No I dont, if you read what i wrote in the post above with the photos it was me who said that there will shortly be no bars left, the place is on its knees...you have to live here to see it!
I only took off comments where people were getting slagged off as I said on my earlier comment.

The problems in Lloret are the same all over Europe there is just no spare money about The Bar owners are not ripping people off they just cannot compete with Supermarket prices and hope to stay in business People who are drinking outside supermarkets should remember that Chris Dolman

Hi Kev, I have been trying to find that photo I posted yonks ago of you but there are so many on here, I can't find it.

Well done Jackie, its a pity you can take the anonymous thing off altogether ha ha. Keep up the good work x

I remember plenty of times in the 80s when the streets and bars were quiet too. Shops and supermarkets still sold drink cheaper then, so nothing new there, but now the all-inc hotels (and a reccession) have been flung into the mix, I'm sure that doesn't help.
At the same as it might seem expensive, look at the prices just north , in France. If you want to moan about getting ripped off, spend a couple of weeks there then drive down to Lloret, have a drink in the British bars and see the difference, it'll feel like a bargain by comparison. Plus the place is a whole lot friendlier (and cleaner). Lloret has a great atmosphere about it, and thats what most people remember.
No point in slagging off the folk that run the pubs, they need to make a living same as everyone.
I hope you all have a great 2012 season.
