A Bit More Recent!

I have just recieved these phots from Colin and Doreen who spent a few years living in Lloret back in the 90s. In the 1st photo Colin is pictured along Stuart, in the next one isTommy (from the Navy Bar in Fenals) the last photo taken in the Barretina shows Fiona behind the bar, Colin stood on the right, Lynne, Omelet, Debbie & Christian. Could that be Colin Vinall in the bottom right of the photo?

John McGuires Photos.

The 1st of Johns photos was taken taken in Western Saloon. With Johns 2nd photo he has a question............
"Now a query picture show a page in my old passport and shows an entrada and salida at Port Bou on the same day , I seem to remember we had to go out and back for some reason might have been to do with applying for a work permit?"

Could it be possibly anything to do with having to take a car out of the country? I seem to remember that back in the early days if you came over to Spain with a car it was only allowed to stay in the country for so long, otherwise you got a large fine for every day over the allowed time. So to avoid this most people just took them over the border to France and dumped them there, returning back to Spain in the same day.
Me and my husband were actually offered a car for free down in Torremolinos in 1976, just because the owner had to get it out of the country....could this have been the reason John?

Tony Porter's Selection.

If you can all remember the last time I published some of Tony's photos, I said that I was looking for some information about the 'old' Costa Encantada hotel for him. Well unfortunately so far I've had no luck about that, but I did speak to one person who was a very good source of info, (a long time ago his family used to own the Eugenia Hotel) He told me that the hotel Adriano (featured in one the the previous post's) he remembers very well. He showed me on a Lloret street map where it stood and nearly gave me the life story of the woman who owned it! She was an English woman called Mrs Hayes who's family also owned the Athene Hotel and also a travel company in London called Panorama...or something very similar. I've passed the news onto Tony, and told him that I will find out more for him if I can.

Again.......Fascinating Stuff !!

Today's photos are from the great selection sent in by Tony in Australia.
The first 2 here look to me as though they are on the promenade in front of the town hall?

This next one has me puzzled!
I .can't think where abouts in Lloret this could be...
I just don't recognise the building at the top of the steps, does anyone else have any idea.
Tony, if you see this maybe you could help us out??

I should think the 2 boys in the last photo will be Tony and his brother, looking out to sea at the boat.

Two More From Linda.

Linda gave some details of the people in the photos she sent, but I'm putting them on the site in a different order to how she sent them, so I hope I'm right in saying that these 2 are from La Cala in 1980. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

Tony Batey's Photos

Today we have another 2 of Tony Batey's photos, both of them feature Walter. Am I right in saying he was a genuine red indian ?

The year Tony gave for both is 1975, and the 2nd was taken in Las Cuevas.

Thanks to Linda for sending a few of her photos in, Linda's surname is now Ely but you would all know her as Moult.
This 1st one is in Yates.

Linda gives the names as follows....Pat, Norrie, Linda and I think the one on the right is another Murphy brother not sure who the other guy is.

The 2nd photo was taken in the Robin Hood with Freddie Puigmarti, John is the one on the right in the blue shirt.

Photos From Jean.

Sorry if you have seen these on the blog before, But I've had so many photos from Jean that I've lost track of what's been published and what hasn't.
Notes I have for these 2 are: it was Kevin's birthday celebration in the Mont Blanc.
I think I'm right in saying Jeans late husband Les is on the left in the blue T-shirt in the bottom photo?

I don't have all that many photos left now for the blog, so I'd appreciate it if any of you have suitable ones I could publish. Please send by email to the address which you can find by clicking on the link near my photo at the top of the column on the left....Thank-You.

Two More FromTony Batey

The top photo from Tony is from Las Cuevas, taken in 1975 with Tony Are Gisella and Ginko.
Las Cuevas has been closed for many years, but the building and name are still there!

Tony's next photo from Rabbies in 1971 features Pat & Daz, who chained the mad Scotsman to the wall ?

No Photos Today !!

Just a quick post ....
As you know, I've recently been looking for some information on the 'old' Costa Encantada Hotel where Tony in Australia used to stay with his family back in the 50s and early 60s. I did manage to get a little more news for him today, along with a copy of this old brochure which may be of interest to everyone else... click on the pics to enlarge and look at the prices!
I'll give more details later of where I found this and what I found out for him so far.

More from Tony Porter in Australia.

Today I'm showing you more photos from Tony in Australia. If you remember from his last photos and email he is looking for some info on the original Costa Encantada hotel which he believes stood on the same site as the 'new' one which is in Fenals today. I received another email from Tony yesterday in which he gives some more details of the hotel and the then owner - Antonio Drets, does his name sound familiar to any of you?
The above photo must be another of the hotels in Lloret, The Adriano.
Photos below, going by Tony's description are the Costa Encantada.

This is part of Tony' recent email....

Re the hotel’s location, I’ve only stated it was on the same site as the current hotel because someone else told me that. The road I don’t remember, but the hotel itself sat on a rise, with a winding ‘terraced’ driveway up from the road.

I know that the trip to the main Lloret beach was a cab ride, but if we turned off the road and walked along dirt roads through the fields (and a lot of ‘scrub’ with a sort-of aniseed-fennel aroma in summer) we’d come in 5-10 minutes to what we considered our own private beach. I’ve assumed, by looking at the map, that it must have been Fenals – but if it turns out the hotel was in the other direction, then maybe it was a different stretch of beach. I can tell you it was a very small cove, littered with fishing boats much like the main beach, but much more secluded and private, with rocky access to the sand.

Antonio Drets was a portly, jovial man, and made a huge fuss of me because we shared the same name. I don’t remember his wife, but the daughters were always around and we sometimes played with them - mostly the youngest, Anna-Marie. (If I said Maria in an earlier email, I was confusing her with a maid at the hotel who ‘doubled’ as our baby-sitter when my parents were out carousing with the locals and other tourists.) The name of an older sister, Mercedes, stuck because it was the same as the car!

Maybe I should open my own page somewhere – but I fear the technology might defeat me! Silly, really, given that I’ve made a career as a journo (among other things such as acting), so all this tacky stuff should be second-nature. Maybe if I was 14.....

Cheers,

Tony P.

These are From 1984

This time we are only going back to 1984 with photos from Tony, who is on the left in the top photo. The photo was taken in the Highwayman, am I right saying it's Lloret's very own 'George Micheal' in the front of the photo ?

Tony's 2nd photo I believe was an end of season do, I could imagine some of which would carry on until the start of the next season!

Two photos from Jean's collection today...the 1st one features Jean and Roger outside the Sportsman in 1988, Roger is here in Lloret at the moment for a few days.
Jeans 2nd photo is from 1978, and features the 'Bermondsy Boys'
