I'm not sure what year these photos are from or what is going on, it looks like some sort of restoration work being carried out on the church.

Old scenes of Lloret
Looking towards the town hall - looks like it was taken from the building which is now the museum and tourist office.
The photo above taken from the town hall roof in 1966, it looks like the same set of bells that are still in place on the roof today!
An aerial shot of Fenals which I havent come across before.

Lloret - Old Scenes
Just for a change today I have photos which were from the photo exhibition held in Lloret a year or two ago now...they show the beaches of Lloret in the early days!
No Years for these but such as the one below if I remember rightly I think was from the 1920s.
Some of the others are much more recent.

Old Scenes of Lloret
I've received a very interesting email from Ray who sent in several photos a while ago, Ray used to work for Tony Batey and here is his story.....
"Thank you for passing on my information to Oscar Batey. I have not
heard back from Tony Batey yet but I notice that a web page now
contains the historic photo of Tony, Eric, Maggie and myself that was
taken shortly before Eric died on that very spot behind the bar of the
Captain's Arms. I should have mentioned before that I was Tony's first
employee, hired in April 1963 for the opening of the Captain's Arms in
Lloret. Maggie was the second employee, hired about one month later.
I was due to open the bar at sunset but Eric had gone in earlier and
was in the process of restocking the shelves to do me a favour, when he
suffered a massive heart attack and died quickly (at age 35). I will
never forget the horse-drawn hearse with squeaking wheels (because of
ungreased axles). We all walked behind the hearse from the church to
the cemetery with the priest in front, then all of the men and finally
all of the women. In our ignorance of local customs, we foreigners
followed the grave diggers into the cemetery and witnessed the burial.
We should have gone no further than the cemetery gate.
In 1963 the English tour guides would meet at a bar-restaurant
named "La Granja". Above the doorway of "La Granja" hung a wooden sign
reading "Afternoon tea. Not made with tea bags". It was common to
hear tour guides agreeing to meet later at "not made with tea bags".
There were a lot of stray dogs roaming the streets of Lloret in
1963. One day a council employee with a bugle did a poor imitation of a
town crier. In the main streets he stopped at every corner, made
horrible noises on his bugle and then loudly read a proclamation about
stray dogs being exterminated. A couple of days later the hit squad
came around with fatal injections and lots of dead dogs lay in the
streets for hours before being carted away. The English dog-lovers
were appalled"

I'm sure there must be lots more similar stories out there, if any of you have a story you would like me to add to the blog for others to read then by all means send it in for me to publish.
Now a few more photos which show how Lloret used to look before most of us
were born! including one taken on Tossa de Mar beach showing an old
woman doing her washing....no its not me before you ask!

Back to the 'Old Scenes'
Todays photos again feature the old street scenes of Lloret, the one from 1950 l think looks like the old Tea Shop street ?? or maybe around that area.
I've no idea where Placa de Verdura is so l tried a searching on the net and all it came up with was the local fruit and veg shop!
Any ideas?

Back to the 'Old Scenes'
More from the recent photo exhibition here in Lloret, the exhibition has now finished but I've still got lots of the photos I took there still to go on the blog.
- Taken in 1945, but where do you think it is? I've removed the name of the street so you cant look it up on Google Earth!
- Looks like Sant Elm is all trimmed up for Christmas, this is one of the narrow streets which runs between the hotels leading from the paseo.
- Behind the town hall, always easily recognised!

Lloret's Early Days
Back to the old scenes of Lloret with 2 photos of the beach - one from the castle end taken in 1917 which I think must be the oldest one so far. The next taken 1925 showing the other end of the beach where the water flows in.
Just as a matter of interest the recent storms and heavy rainfall just lately has caused a lot of damage to Fenals beach with the way its cut though the sand, I've put some photos on the Lloret Blog, just click here to see them >> FENALS BEACH

Old Lloret Scenes
Two old views of the same street today, but where is it? Just a little clue - it was one of the busiest streets in Lloret at one time, but sadly not any more.
EASY....or it should be !

Old Lloret Scenes
These old scenes of Lloret seem to be very popular so here's two more -
No need to tell you where the 1st picture is, but what about the 2nd one dated 1925....I've erased the name of the street, so have a guess and leave your comment....I'll give you the answer in a few days time!

Old Lloret Scenes
Some more pics from the photo exhibition which is on show in Lloret till 27th of November.
The last photos I published from the exhibition there was one taken of a bus outside the Parada Bar, the above photo looks as though its taken in the same square looking up St Pedro with the bar on the left and and pharmacy on the right - almost in the same place as the one there now.
