All the way from Australia.
Here are some more photos from Tony in Australia who's family were regular visitors in the late 50s - early 60s. I'm sure we all recognise the location of the 2nd and 3rd photos. The 2nd one looks to me like the bar/restaurant seats running along the promenade in front of the town hall and then the promenade with the town hall in the background.
As for the 1st one which I should think will be Tony's family sat at the table, I just cant place where abouts it could be....any ideas ?

Tony Batey's Lloret Album.
Both photos today are from Rabbies in 1971
Tony has given me all names for everyone in the above photo, from left to right is Sally, Tony, Malachi, Moyra and Len. One thing I've noticed with all the photos I've had sent which feature dogs is that we always get the dogs name, Tony has also given me the dogs name....anyone else out there know it ?
Malachi is in the second of today's photos on the left, at the back in the centre is Ian 'Gibby' Gibson in front of him is Anne Marie and next to her is John Mackenzie...Any more names for this photo?

Lloret 1958-60
Thanks to Tony out in Australia for sending these fascinating photos to publish.
He came across our site while he was searching for some info of Lloret back in the 50s & 60s, part of his email can be read at the bottom of this post. So in return for me trying to help find some information for him I asked if he would send some of his photos, the first of which are here. I thought it would be a good idea to first publish the ones which recall the journey Tony and his family had to endure to reach Lloret. First of all they flew from the UK to Perpignan, (no jets in those days!) pass through customs, then travel the rest of the way by bus. I should think the cost in those days would have been far more than it is now....even without Ryanair !
Tony's email....
Background first: my father was an exec with first Airwork, then Tradair, charter airlines that (among others) opened up the tourist trade from Southend into the Costa Brava. That meant that I spent many childhood holidays from the UK in Lloret when it was truly a fishing village.
We used to land at Perpignan, then bus over the border to Lloret. We routinely stayed at the original Costa Encantada, which was run (owned, I think) by the Drets family, headed by Antonio Drets. (I may have the spelling wrong.) I think he might have been mayor at some time, and I later heard stories about a scandal involving the family, but that may have been scuttlebutt. He had a family of all daughters – I can only recall the names Maia and Mercedes.
We used to walk from the hotel to the beach, through fields in which local farmers grew crops of peanuts. I have some photos – not many beyond close-ups of family members, but some capture the atmosphere of the place and the time. I also have one scrappy pic of the old hotel – and would love to see some better pics, if there are any. I find it hard to believe that no old tourism literature survives, but sadly the emails I’ve sent to the current hotel have been ignored, so either they have no information or don’t want to be connected with the old place. Perhaps you can help me there.

More from Tony Batey
Two photos again from Tony...The top one from 1971 in the old Rabbie Burns. Tony gave me the names of the trio of women, they are Anne Marie, June and Marion. Marion is still here in Lloret, and still has her wicked sense of humour ! Does anyone recognise the couple on either side?
The second photo this time outside Rabbies in 1972 with Malachi at the front, no more names for this one but Tony did tell me the story of the wooden carving above the door...
It was done by someone in Blanes, but later stolen and somehow ended up in Scotland. Tony found out where it was and eventually it came back to Lloret, and now Hammy has placed it above the bar in the new Rabbie Burns!

A Special Request
I know we have a bit of a following with some of Lloret's ex workers who are now living in Australia. I wonder if any of you out there know of anyone called Tommy Spalding, I know its a long shot but if so would you please let me know. Some one in Lloret would like either his email address or phone number.
As yet I dont have anymore details about Tommy only that I believe he's in Melbourne.
Thank-you for any help...Jackie

Tony Batey's Photo Album.
Here we have 3 more photos from Tony today, the first one again from the Captains Arms in 1968. Second from the right is Tony, other people in the photo are Stan, John, Tommy then Don far left. Tony can't remember the girls name, can any of you help him out?
Tony's second photo features Dave Charnley, who was a British Lightweight Champion boxer and his manager, with Tony in the centre of the photo. [Captains Arms, mid 60s] you can read more about Dave Charnley on Wikipedia.
The last photo shows an outside view of the Captains arms in 1970.

Jeans Photo Album
Here are some more from Jean's collection of photos today. I believe her first holiday here was in 1958 and the photo below is dated 1959 and also has Jeans age as 22! The photo with the parasol is taken on Boadella beach and the top one looks as though it was taken in Gerry's Bar 1981-82.
Jean will be here on holiday again at the end of October for a few days.

Photos from Tony
Yesterday I met up with Tony Batey, who has kindly spent the last few days looking through his old photos for the Lloret Old Stuff site. The first one from his selection goes back to 1963, the second one is again from the 60s (not sure of the exact year) Both were taken in the Captains Arms.
He has given names for the 1st one as follows Left to right is Maggie, Eric, Ray from Australia then Tony himself.
The only names I have for the 2nd one are again Tony (sat at the front) and Moyra his late wife sat top right.
Can anyone out there add any more names, and where are these people now?
Many thanks to Tony for taking the time to sort out his photos for us all to see !

Jeans Photo Album
Today we go back to Jeans photos, with the first one despite the rain everyone is still smiling.
Come to think of it, its time we had some rain in Lloret. This month the temperatures have dropped by just one or two degrees at last, but still no rain for the last 3 months or so!
The last two photos from 1989 feature some of the old Lloret favorites, with Jean in La Uva is Denis from the White Horse, and Bob sadly missed.. but what a character!
Next, Jean is with Tommy, the bar I think is Tommy's bar the Navy.

Hotels ??
Vilma's photos today feature some of the old hotels in Lloret. The photo of the San Marti Park below looks to me like it could be one of the Garbi hotels or the Guitart Central & Spa Hotel as they are called today. Does anyone know for sure what they are?
